package manager is a bit different from ubuntu types
that's probably the only thing that is annoying
instead of apt-get u'd use zypper
other than that i guess ur good
if ur planning to switch..

I haven't tried Mint yet, but I would definitely recommend SUSE for a stable, user friendly distribution that almost always "just works". Unfortunately Linux users are a bit tribal so it's difficult to get an honest comparison of different distributions. For someone who is fairly new to Linux, going with a very popular distro like SUSE (or Ubuntu) is sensible since there is far greater forum support available and usually better software stability. If you like the KDE4 look, then SUSE is generally regarded as giving one of the best KDE experiences, and the current 11.4 edition is solid enough for both home and professional use. On the down side, if you love the command line, you may get frustrated that SUSE is more set up with GUI users in mind.

Alright Smile Do you have any problems with it being rpm based as opposed to debian based? And also, how is ease of installing applications? In Ubuntu theres the easy to use software center so you just hit install and voila. In mint there is the software manager, which works the same. In openSUSE is the Yast add and remove software function the same?

There are no problems with it being RPM based as it is a popular enough distribution for most software to be available pre-packaged. Debian seems to have slightly better availability of specialist (especially scientific) software, but if you get into that kind of thing, it's easy enough to manually install things anyway.

I think the YAST software installation tool is very nice, and pretty similar to Synaptic in other distributions. There is even a "1 click install" feature where a single download will draw in any extra third party repositories you need (for things like semi-legal codecs etc).
